The Beach Hut, located in Preston Marina is filled with delicious cakes, tasty drinks and a well stocked gift shop. This coffee shop has been a favourite with boat-owners and non-boating people alike since opening in 1990.
The team at The Beach Hut originally worked with cash registers when they contacted us. When we first developed a relationship with them, their needs were very different to what they are now. Initially, we went and installed two touchscreen EPOS Systems with integrated credit card terminals, enabling fast contactless payments. A kitchen printer was connected to help speed up order processing and improve kitchen operations.
Then faced with the challenges of COVID-19, The Beach Hut have installed two handheld order pads to facilitate table service in the indoor and outdoor seating areas. More recently, we have developed their Online Ordering system ready for their re-opening in the coming weeks. We have integrated Mobo2Go with their EPOS System so the sales data streams directly into their cloud-based back office system.

Can you tell us why you chose Mobo Innovations to provide your system?
We were attracted to Mobo Innovations because they are a local company with a good website which described the system and the service we were looking for. When we met with Michael, it was obvious that he was as passionate about his business as we are about ours, and he understood our needs very quickly. His can do attitude took away all the doubt and worries we had about changing our system and it made our decision an easy one.
What do you like best about your EPOS System?
There are many advantages to this system. We had outgrown our old tills and were looking for a system that could cope with the extra demand we hoped our ongoing expansion and refurbishment would bring. It was time to future-proof our business. One of the important features we instantly enjoyed was the food and drinks orders going directly to the correct preparation area from the customer ordering point. This simple change made such a difference to our efficiency.
Would you say that implementing the EPOS System with handheld ordering pads was a success?
It has most definitely been a success for us; we immediately got the improved efficiency results we were looking for. We got to test that future proofing far faster than we intended. We could never have anticipated all the changes and pressures that were to be placed upon us so quickly due to the COVID-19 pandemic. We can honestly say that without the flexibility of this system and the help of the team at Mobo Innovations, we would have struggled to cope.
What challenges did you face before implementing your system?
There were many challenges but our biggest to date was an overnight change from orders being placed at the tills (our successful business model for 30 years), to our team undertaking table service. The handheld order pads saved the day! They enabled the orders to be take electronically, ensuring the same level of efficiency was maintained and our customers loved it!
Another challenge we are currently relishing is the introduction of our online ordering service. The Mobo team are currently constructing this site and once we are trained and ready to go, we are looking forward to sharing all the benefits this will bring with our customers.
Would you recommend Mobo Innovations to others?
We would definitely recommend Mobo Innovations. There may well be cheaper systems available but thank goodness we were not tempted. There have been a few teething troubles, but their back-up and knowhow has meant that we got through them. Our system does what it needs to do, leaving us to do what we need to do, which is deliver the best service we can to our fantastic customers.
